Selma Blair gives startling health update amid multiple sclerosis remission

The positive news is that Selma Blair’s multiple sclerosis remains in remission.

However, the Cruel Intentions actress continues to endure persistent pain due to her diagnosis.

Blair, now 51, candidly discussed her life with this chronic illness in an Instagram video posted on January 30.

In the video, she also revealed another diagnosis: Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a disorder often associated with MS.

“I’m in constant pain,” Blair shared. “I mention this for those of you who also suffer. I understand. And for everyone, just aging can be painful. You need to stretch.”

However, Blair noted that stretching is particularly challenging for her due to her Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a connective tissue disorder.

“My muscles aren’t very stable,” she explained.

“The Ehlers-Danlos makes me extremely stiff because I easily strain my muscles, which then become slack and unresponsive. This leads to frequent injuries.”

Blair reassured her followers, saying, “This isn’t anything terribly frightening. It’s just an additional chronic condition I need to monitor. People often think stretching is beneficial, but technically, I shouldn’t stretch because I’m always overstretching.”

In 2021, Blair announced that her MS was in remission, a status that has thankfully continued.

Nevertheless, she still experiences daily symptoms of MS.

“I still feel fatigue and stiffness all the time,” she admitted. “When I’m alone, I can move and walk better in open spaces. But I notice that it’s still very noticeable when I navigate different rooms, hallways, or meet new people, or even when I focus on talking about it.”

“I just want to sleep, then ride my horse and feel better,” she continued. “Every day is a new beginning for me, like Groundhog Day. I’m doing really well overall. No complaints, though I’m not sure if I’ll ever achieve the coordination, balance, or stamina I desire. Still, I’m incredibly fortunate and grateful. I’m doing okay.”
