She Found Joy in Being a Grandma of 5 Living in Ocean-View House

Actress Sally Field, renowned for her maternal roles, gained early fame through the TV sitcom “Gidget” and later soared to success with diverse roles in Hollywood.

Despite a challenging childhood, marked by her stepfather’s influence, acting became Field’s escape route, leading her to audition for Columbia Pictures’ acting workshop.

Transitioning from sitcoms to drama, Field’s role in the TV series “The Flying Nun” and subsequent enrollment at Actors Studios in 1973 marked a turning point in her career.

Her breakthrough came with the 1979 film “Norma Rae,” earning her an Academy Award.

Field’s personal life saw two divorces. Her first marriage to high school sweetheart Steven Craig ended in 1975 after seven years, and a subsequent relationship with Burt Reynolds concluded in 1984.

Her second marriage to film producer Alan Greisman lasted from 1984 to 1994.

While facing a stagnant period in her career and love life, Field experienced a resurgence with an Oscar nomination for her role in “Lincoln” and subsequent TV and film projects.

She expressed contentment with her single life, emphasizing her love for family and close Hollywood friends like Tom Hanks.

Embracing natural aging, Field, now 76, acknowledged its challenges, particularly concerning her neck. Despite some reservations, she opted not to undergo plastic surgery, drawing inspiration from aging gracefully like Hollywood legends Helen Hayes and Jessica Tandy.

Field faced criticism on social media regarding her appearance, but she remained unfazed. Diagnosed with osteoporosis before turning 60, she highlighted the importance of addressing the “silent disease” early through supplements, exercise, and awareness.

As a grandmother of five, Field relishes her role and enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, embracing the joy they bring.

Her sons, Peter, Eli, and Samuel, hold a special place in her life. While Peter excels in screenwriting, Eli follows in his mother’s acting footsteps and directs, and Samuel is a writer and director who embraced his identity as a gay man.

Field’s family dynamics, captured in her memoir “In Pieces,” shed light on her complex relationship with her stepfather and childhood challenges. The book, released in 2018, provides insights into her journey, relationships, and successful career.

The actress’s downsizing in 2012 led to the purchase of a new home in Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades neighborhood, offering breathtaking ocean views.

The 2,800-square-foot residence, valued at $2.3 million, features a modern kitchen, walk-in closets, and a picturesque front yard.

Sally Field’s enduring career, coupled with her resilience and commitment to family, showcases a multifaceted woman who navigated Hollywood, personal challenges, and aging with grace and authenticity.
