Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock are two of the most charismatic and captivating actors in Hollywood, known for their incredible screen presence and impeccable comedic timing.

These talents were put to good use when the pair teamed up for the classic 2009 romantic comedy, “The Proposal.”

And 14 years on, Reynolds took the occasion of his co-star’s 59th birthday to remind her

and the world of one of the film’s most memorable moments in which they both stripped down naked.

Reynolds was born on Oct. 23, 1976, in Vancouver, Canada. His journey to stardom began in the late ’90s when he appeared in a series of TV shows, eventually transitioning to films. With his charming smile and comedic talents, Reynolds quickly became a sought-after actor in romantic comedies and action films alike. His breakout role came in 2002 with the raucously funny “Van Wilder: Party Liaison,” which firmly established him as a charismatic leading man. He has since gone on to showcase his acting prowess, not only in comedies such as “The Change-Up” “Deadpool” and “Free Guy,” but more dramatic roles like “Life,” “Safe House” and “6 Underground.”

Meanwhile, Bullock was born on July 26, 1964, in Arlington, Virginia, and has grown to become one of Hollywood’s most beloved actresses. She made her mark in the industry with films like “Speed” and “While You Were Sleeping,” earning critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. Known for her down-to-earth charm and versatile acting skills, Bullock effortlessly glides between dramatic roles and romantic comedies, making her a true American sweetheart.

Their broad audience appeal no doubt set the stage for them to one day share the big screen together, which finally occurred with “The Proposal” to spectacular success.

In 2009, Reynolds and Bullock teamed up for the romantic comedy “The Proposal,” directed by Anne Fletcher. The film’s premise centers around Margaret Tate, played by Bullock, a high-powered book editor facing deportation to her native Canada due to an expiring visa. Desperate to avoid this fate, she devises a scheme to marry her long-suffering assistant, Reynolds’ Andrew Paxton, who reluctantly agrees to the charade. The duo heads to Andrew’s family home in Alaska to announce their engagement and must navigate through a series of hilarious and heartfelt moments.

Among the most memorable of these moments was a scene in which Bullock’s character slipped on a bathmat after exiting the shower completely in the nude and straight into Reynolds’ character, who was also nude after having removed his clothes following a bout of exercise. Bullock’s character then lands on top of Reynolds and they both fall into a heap of awkward embarrassment on the floor together.

In a 2021 podcast, Bullock recounted filming the scene with Reynolds, whom she described as having known since they were “prepubescent” and that they “go way, way, way back.” She recalled:

“We had a closed set… Ryan and I have these flesh-colored things stuck to our privates, my hair is strategically over the nipples and Ryan’s little — not little, at all! It’s just whatever’s there, and I don’t know because I didn’t see it, I didn’t look! Then, I hear Anne Fletcher from the darkness go, ‘Ryan, we can see your ball sack!’ I’m like, ‘Oh God!’ because you wanna look down but I’m like, ‘Don’t look down. Don’t look down.’… Everyone in the darkness spun around to see if they could find a monitor. I was like, ‘Anne, there’s a way to present that information.’”

“The Proposal” was both a critical and commercial triumph. Audiences and critics alike praised the film for its heartwarming humor and the undeniable connection between Reynolds and Bullock. The movie grossed over $300 million worldwide, cementing the duo’s status as box office draws and reaffirming their popularity among moviegoers.

In the same podcast, Bullock cited part of the film’s draw to her beloved co-star.

“Ryan was just so cool. Unflappable. He is absolutely unflappable,” she said, adding that, while she is hardly ever in her element filming nude scenes, Reynolds’ presence was a boon.

“You will not see me trying to attempt being sexy naked — in real life or onscreen. There’s just no point in it! It was for that reason, with a friend that you trusted comedically, and safety-wise, I knew I was in the presence of safety,” she added.

It appears the nude scene from “The Proposal” held a special place in Reynolds’ memories as well, and he took to Instagram on July 26, 2023, to pay tribute to Bullock on her 59th birthday with the throwback clip, writing jokingly in the caption:

“Happy Birthday to the inimitable and stunning Sandra Bullock! For your birthday this year, I got us both intimacy coordinators. And an HR department. And clothing?”

Fans were quick to express their love for the heartwarming film. One comment read, “We watch this movie on repeat. Feeling sad? Watch The Proposal. Feeling happy? Watch the Proposal. Feeling stressed? Watch The Proposal. Can’t sleep? Proposal. Girls party? Proposal. Dinner on the couch with the family? Watch The Proposal. ❤️”

Another wrote:

“I almost peed myself laughing from that scene. Best movie ever!”
