Kent McCord, born Kent Franklin McWhirter on September 26, 1942, at French Hospital in downtown Los Angeles, California, had an early start in life, working at his father’s gas station and later at Brackett Field Airport in La Verne, California, where he received flying lessons in exchange for his work. He pursued his education, attending Citrus Junior College and later the University of Southern California, with plans to become a physical education instructor and football coach.

In the early 1960s, Kent crossed paths with notable figures like Ricky Nelson and Elvis Presley, which eventually led to roles in popular series and films, including “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” and several Elvis movies.

Kent’s breakthrough came when he signed with Universal Studios, landing roles in series like “Dragnet” and “The Big Explosion.” However, it was his role as Officer Jim Reed in “Adam-12” alongside Martin Milner that solidified his place in television history. The series garnered immense success, running from 1968 to 1975, with 174 episodes.

After “Adam-12,” Kent continued his acting career, appearing in series like “Galactica 1980” and “UNSUB.” He also became involved in the Screen Actors Guild, serving on its board of directors and receiving the prestigious Ralph Morgan Award in 1999.

In his personal life, Kent has been married to his high school sweetheart, Cynthia Lee Doty, since July 14, 1962. The couple shares three children: daughters Kristen and Megan, who followed their father’s footsteps into acting, and a son.

Despite his busy career, Kent has always prioritized family, turning down acting roles to spend time at home and engage in activities like cycling with Cynthia. He has maintained lifelong friendships with co-stars like Martin Milner and Julie London, and even received recognition from legendary director John Ford.

Throughout his career, Kent has reprised his role as Officer Jim Reed on various occasions, cementing his legacy in television history.
