Cillian Murphy had his sons by his side as he experienced a major milestone.
On Sunday, the Irish actor, 47, walked the red carpet at the 2024 Oscars, joined by wife Yvonne McGuinness and their two sons, Malachy, 18, and Aran, 16.
Murphy held hands with his wife, walking just ahead of the couple’s teenage sons, who matched their dad in black tuxedos. The actor, who later won Best Actor for his role in the film Oppenheimer, smiled as he walked with his family of four.
While Murphy has appeared in major films such as Inception and The Dark Knight, the actor and his wife work to ensure that their sons have a normal, private life.
“I don’t know, they seem better adjusted than I was. More sure of themselves,” Murphy told The Guardian in 2016. “I’m happy about that. For me, it was something that took a long time to figure out: that it’s all right to be you, that it’s all right to be an individual.”
The star has also shared how proud he is of his two boys.
“They’re really good boys. We have a laugh,” he told Rolling Stone UK in 2023. Malachy and Aran even enjoy watching Murphy’s films sometimes. “We don’t do ‘Dad’s Movie Night’, but they like some of my films. They say all my films are really intense,” he added.
In January, the actor took a moment to thank his wife and sons as he accepted the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor, at the Palm Springs International Film Awards.
Acknowledging that “because I don’t ever really get to do this too often, I want to say thanks to my family,” Murphy went on to thank his wife of 20 years and his kids.
“Two-thirds of them are sitting down there. We had to leave one of them at home doing exams,” said the actor. “But just thanks for putting up with me — putting up with the half me and the shadow me and the absent me, the remains of me when I’m doing a film like this or work in general.”
“You’re always there. I love it. So thanks, guys,” he added.
