At 79, Rod Stewart’s fans pray after “My days are numbered’ condition and health woes

According to reports, the legendary rocker has faced a series of health setbacks of late that have forced him to cancel shows. At 79 years old, Stewart made headlines last month after making the aforementioned remark.

The incredibly popular artist quickly looked to clarify his “numbered” comment, perhaps hoping to ease the concerns of those worried about his health…

It was late July when Rod Stewart sparked fears for his well-being after revealing in an interview that his days were “numbered”. A few days later, the singer took to Instagram to break the news that he was canceling his 200th show celebration.

“I’m desperately sorry to miss this 200th show celebration. Most people can work with strep throat, but obviously not me. I’m absolutely gutted. I’ve been looking forward to this concert for so long,” Stewart wrote at the time. “My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused. Thankfully, we’ll now be returning in 2025, and I hope to see you there.”

Two days after that announcement there then came further bad news.

“We regret to announce that tonight’s Rod Stewart concert in Stateline, NV, and his August 10 show in Lincoln, CA have been postponed, as the singer recovers from a summer strain of Covid-19,” the statement read.

Putting two and two together – Stewart’s comment about his days being numbered prior to a string of cancelations – fans naturally began to wonder if the I Don’t Want To Talk About It singer was trying to convey grave news.

In fact, the 79-year-old felt the need to provide some clarification with regards to his comments in the same interview.

“I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear,” Stewart said.

“We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket.

“I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can.

“I say few — probably another 15 [years].”

In his interview with The Sun, Stewart did however admit to still partying in the aftermath of a successful show.

“I’m not like I was in the ’70s and ’80s and I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that,” he explained.

“Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show.

“The older you get, the more you have to do that. Water has a hell of a lot to do with it. But no, you think I just have water on my rider?

“You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. We go mad after every show. There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians and I make them drink. We absolutely love it.”

Here’s to hoping Stewart’s around and performing for many years to come.
