When it comes to pronouncing names, you’d think that one such as Adele would be pretty easy to wrap your head around.
It’s a fairly common name after all and made even more popular by one very talented British singer.
Adele says we’ve been pronouncing her name wrong
However, it turns out that several fans have been saying the name wrong for years, with the ‘Someone Like You’ hitmaker finally setting the record straight back in 2022.
The 36-year-old singer was answering a series of questions from fans ahead of her rescheduled Las Vegas residency, with one woman asking her about her creative process when writing her albums 25 and 30.
But Adele didn’t answer the question straight away, instead focusing on the way the woman had pronounced her name.

“She said my name perfectly,” the singer raved, before addressing woman’s question.
Now, most of us would have thought the ‘Skyfall’ singer’s name was pronounced Ah-dell – it turns out we’ve got it all wrong.
If you want to make Adele happy, you need to be pronouncing her name as Uh-dale, with the emphasis on the second syllable.
Yep, it’s a subtle difference and you might need to listen to it a few times to get your head around it – but we stand corrected. After all, if that’s how Adele says her own name then who are we to disagree with her.
So, if you’re heading to see Adele and feel like chanting her name in-between songs, make pronouncing it uh-dale, not ah-dell.

However don’t hold your breath on being able to see her live anytime soon if you’re not in Munich or Las Vegas, as the singer has recently announced that she is planning to take a ‘big break’ from music.
Announcing the devastating move at her recent show in the German city residency, the singer explained that she’d like to focus on other creative projects for while.
“My tank is quite empty from being on stage every weekend in Las Vegas. I don’t have any plans for new music, at all,” she told German broadcaster ZDF.
“I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while.”
She is currently in the middle of performing a series of shows at a ‘bespoke’ arena in Munich – which have eye-watering ticket prices.
The German shows will continue into August before she returns to Vegas to finish off her residency this November.
