House of the Dragon could technically include one character from Game of Thrones

Only one Game of Thrones character could technically make an appearance in House of the Dragon

Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are well over a century apart As House of the Dragon season two continues to unfold, the fanfare for the Game of Thrones spinoff is yet again at its height.

Beyond giving longtime fans of Game of Thrones something to enjoy five years after its finale, House of the Dragon also gives background and further world-building for fans old and new to enjoy, as the show takes place nearly two centuries before the original series.

Because of this time gap, one might assume that there won’t be much overlapping between the two HBO series when it comes to characters. However, technically there is one being in the original Game of Thrones that could make an appearance in House of Dragon.

Now, it isn’t a main character of the original series like Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen, who wouldn’t be born for another century-and-a-half after House of the Dragon began.

Similarly, we aren’t talking about a noteworthy character from the new show, like Daemond Targaryen, living for hundreds of years and having a brief moment of screen time in Game of Thrones either.

Instead, it is none other than Melisandre who could appear in the new show, as her character was technically born long before the time of both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

To give some background, Melisandre–also known as the Red Woman or the Red Witch–was a recurring character that appeared in 29 episodes of Game of Thrones from seasons 2-8. While she appears in the show to be quite young, it was eventually revealed that the witch was a staggering 400 years old during the events of Game of Thrones.

This means that Melisandre could quite easily appear in House of the Dragon at the spry young age of 200 years old.

The idea has been circulated by many fans online that maybe Melisandre could make an appearance in the ongoing show, though many aren’t quite sure how she would fit into the story, as the show already has a witch–Alys Rivers–that is causing a stir in the new series.

Nonetheless, people are still excited at the thought of Melisandre making an appearance, with one poster on X (formerly Twitter) saying: “I’m waiting for Melisandre to show up in House of the Dragon. She would have been 200 years old during that saga.”

However, some are not as fond of the Red Witch potentially making an appearance.

Another user on X stated bluntly: “People keep comparing it to GoT and it’s a separate story. Everyone wants Melisandre to appear. This isn’t Game of Thrones. It’s House of the Dragon.“Featured Image Credit: HBO

House of the Dragon director addresses fan theory about major Game of Thrones Easter egg

House of the Dragon director addresses fan theory about major Game of Thrones Easter egg

Rhaena Targaryen (Phoebe Campbell) was given a very important task in the latest House of the Dragon episode

House of the Dragon fans are flooding to social media in a frenzy after the director addressed a theory about a very literal Game of Thrones Easter egg.

The director of season two, episode three of House of The Dragon Geeta Vasant Patel has spoken out after fans made an exciting connection to GOT.

**Warning: Spoilers ahead if you’ve not watched season two, episode three of House of The Dragon**

The third episode of the second season – written by David Hancock and directed by Patel – sees Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) send her sons Aegon and Viserys to the Vale.

She asks Rhaena Targaryen (Phoebe Campbell) to accompany them and ensure not only their safety, but the protection of the young dragons Tyraxes and Stormcloud, alongside four dragon eggs.

As soon as House of the Dragon viewers spotted the eggs, many immediately flocked to social media to question whether the eggs are very literal Easter eggs to Game of Thrones and are, in fact, the eggs which later come into the possession of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) – who’s given them by Illyrio Mopatis (Roger Allam).

And Patel has since addressed the fans’ speculation.

Patel told Mashable: “Those are Daenerys’ eggs. All of us who work on this show are big Game of Thrones fans, so it was very exciting to shoot that scene.”

So, it’s been confirmed the eggs are those which later hatch into Daenerys’ dragons Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion.

And it’s not taken long for fans of the show to flood to social media in delight.

One Twitter user said: “I gotta say the more I think about this the more I like it. Rhaenyra said if everything went wrong, those eggs would carry on the legacy of their house. And that’s exactly what Daenerys and her dragons are, the future and legacy of house Targaryen.”

“Soon as I seen them I already knew,” another added.

A third commented: “Her shadow is all over HOTD and I love it.”

“That’s actually amazing,” a fourth said.

A fifth wrote: “The fact Rhaena really did end up protecting the Targaryen legacy she had the most important job.”

And a final simply wrote: “I pray for a sequel to happen to GOT & Daenerys comes back to life either human, demigod or white walker and kills all of the Starks & Tyrion Lannister and reign supreme. Please! She Deserves Her Revenge!”

House of the Dragon episodes air every Sunday at 9pm ET on HBO and Max.
